Social Skills

Social and play skills is one of the most critical areas of development for children. Sounds Connections provides support to children and young people who have difficulties playing with and relating to others, understanding and expressing emotions, engaging in socially appropriate behaviour and making friends.

We tailor our support to the social and emotional needs of each child and consider factors such as age, level of social understanding, behavioural issues, emotional literacy and personal interests.

The goal of our therapies is to help children develop the following skills:

  • Social thinking skills
  • Social interaction skills
  • Empathy and understanding towards others
  • How to manage conflict
  • Social initiation and skills that can help in making friends and participating in friendship circles
  • Positive communication
  • Problem solving skills
  • How to manage and express emotions such as anger, excitement, stress, frustration and fear
  • Cooperating and compromising skills
  • Resilience and flexible thinking strategies
